| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, May 6th, 1930: Middlesex Shuts Out Sussex In an almost effortless performance, Paul Derringer of the Crusaders shot down the Sharks 6-0 on a 5-hit shutout.
His skipper said, "Paul was just locating so well and using his pitches...not leaving anything over the plate."
Derringer recorded 7 strikeouts and 3 walks in a strong outing.
In the postgame press conference, the Sussex manager said, "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game like he can and we couldn't get a key hit off him."
Thus far this season Derringer has posted a 3-3 record, started 7 games, struck out 44 batters in 57 innings and compiled a 2.53 ERA. |  | Monday, May 5th, 1930: Sharks Hurler Hughson Tames Middlesex On the hill Tex Hughson stood out and was the master of the moment as he blanked Middlesex 12-0.
At bat the Crusaders floundered, fizzled and failed to score.
"His fastball moves and he mixes in the slider," the Middlesex manager said. "He kept us off balance."
The Sussex pitcher hurled a 5-hit shutout in an exceptional effort. He gave up no walks and numbered 5 strikeouts.
"I felt good," Hughson said. "That's probably the best fastball I've had all season. I was able to locate it pretty well. They were super-aggressive, which helped me."
So far this season Hughson has compiled a 3-1 record with a 4.03 ERA. |  | Thursday, May 1st, 1930: Harry Howell Will Miss 7-8 Months Harry Howell at first refused to leave today's Yorkshire-Middlesex game after he suffered a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament while throwing a pitch. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor," the feisty Middlesex starting pitcher said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Howell out of action for 7-8 months.
So far this year Howell has made 6 starts, tossed 46 innings, struck out 22 batters and walked 11.
