Friday, July 14th, 1922: Cooney 5-5 Against Northamptonshire-2nd-IX
It was a good day all around. Kent-2nd-IX whipped Northamptonshire-2nd-IX 7-2 and Johnny Cooney displayed a hot bat, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day at Mole Park.

"Some days, lady luck is on your side," he modestly told SION reporters after the game. His manager told the beat writers otherwise, "His hitting wasn't luck today. It's his solid approach to hitting. Johnny is focused, patient and he hits to all fields. The more solid at-bats you put together, the more success you're going to have, and vice versa."

The 24-year-old first baseman for the Spitfires collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats to get his name in the record book.

J. Cooney doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

During the 1922 season Cooney has hit .272 with 1 home run and 40 RBIs. He has played in 89 games and scored 47 times.
