| Breaking News | | Tuesday, April 22nd, 1930: Freeman Bangs Out 5 Base Hits 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book.
In the Spitfires 6-5 win over Derbyshire, Buck Freeman was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at St. Lawrence.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Freeman delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
B. Freeman hit a two-run double in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off A. Rusie in the 9th.
Freeman is batting .455 with 1 home runs and 11 RBIs this season. | | Saturday, April 19th, 1930: Kent Blanked by Singer Bill Singer shut 'em down and shut 'em out, hurling Middlesex past Kent 8-0 in a complete game victory.
He told SION sportswriters in the postgame interview, "This is a game of adjustments and I made some good ones in this game."
Singer held the Kent Spitfires without a run, tossing a 6-hitter while walking 2 and fanning 5.
