| Breaking News | | Tuesday, September 4th, 1923: Derbyshire-2nd-IX Wins Queen's Cup!
You could hear the cheering all over Derbyshire-2nd-IX as the Phantoms secured the final out of a 4-3 win over the Lurgan-2nd-IX Setters to capture the 1923 Queen's Competition Queen's Cup 4-1. It was the 1st time in the team's history to win it.
"The Setters are a good ballclub," said the winning skipper, "We had to play at our best to beat them."
"Anytime you make big plays, it changes the momentum of the game," the losing manager said. "The Phantoms made 'em and we didn't -- end of story."
During the season the new champs compiled a 88-42 record in the Dales Division A and finished in first place in the standings.

 | Wednesday, August 1st, 1923: DL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Krakauskas
When Joe Krakauskas took the hill in July, he was in charge. The Derbyshire-2nd-IX starter never let the Dales batters get a foothold against him. For his peerless performance, he came away with an impressive 4-0 record and the Pitcher of the Month award.
The talented Phantoms hurler made 4 starts, worked 26.2 innings, permitted 16 base hits and struck out 31, while putting up a 1.35 ERA.
Checking out his stats for the year, Krakauskas has racked up 4 wins and no losses in 4 starts, 1.45 ERA and struck out 35 batters in 31 innings.

 | Thursday, July 12th, 1923: Northamptonshire-2nd-IX No Match for Zachry
In an outstanding outing, Pat Zachry tamed Northamptonshire-2nd-IX on a 4-hit shutout. The Derbyshire-2nd-IX hurler went the distance, finishing with 7 strikeouts and no walks in the 2-0 win.
"He had a lot of first pitch strikes and kept us off balance with a lot of off-speed stuff," according to the Northamptonshire-2nd-IX manager. "We just didn't get too many balls squared up today."
In 1923 Zachry has compiled a 14-6 record with a 2.19 ERA.
