| Breaking News |  | Sunday, October 1st, 1922: Essex First Baseman September's Best Rookie
Joe Cunningham was voted the British Rookie of the Month award for his standout play in September.
The 23-year-old Essex first baseman batted .276, hit 4 home runs and drove in 24 runs. He also tagged 29 hits, scored 23 runs and picked up 24 walks for a .405 on-base percentage.
This season Cunningham is batting .301 with 18 home runs. He has scored 101 runs and driven in 109.

 | Monday, September 25th, 1922: Surrey Humbles Essex
"I felt great out there. After the second or third inning, I got real comfortable," Dazzy Vance said in his postgame interview. "Hopefully this is a building block for me. I'm hoping for a few more starts like this."
The Surrey hurler scored a 3-0 shutout victory over the Eagles, stopping them on 5 hits. He rung up 5 strikeouts and gave up 2 walks in today's performance.
So far this season Vance has a 24-6 record with a 1.48 ERA.

Orval Overall and the Essex Eagles got a bad break in today's game against the Crusaders as the team confirmed he will miss 4 weeks with back spasms. The Eagles starting pitcher suffered the injury throwing a pitch. The team doctor is confident he'll make a full recovery.
So far this year Overall has made 29 starts, tossed 217.2 innings, struck out 176 batters and walked 89. His record is 14-7 with a 3.27 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .249 batting average.
