| | Saturday, September 12th, 1931: Lurgan Loses Al Oliver The Lurgan Setters will lose the services of center fielder Al Oliver after he sustained a hyperextended elbow while throwing the ball in today's game against the Somerset Sabres. When asked about the injury, he took a philosophical approach. "Worse things can happen in life," Oliver said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 5-6 weeks.
This season Oliver is swinging the bat at a .332 rate with 132 hits in 397 at-bats. To date he has hit 14 home runs, scored 56 runs and driven in 62. | | Friday, September 4th, 1931: Belle On Fire! 5-5 for Lurgan! The Lurgan left fielder went 5 for 5 in the game to put his name in the record book.
Summing up his batting philosophy to SION writers after the game, Belle said, "I just see the ball and I hit it."
A. Belle singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off C. Bradford in the 8th.
In 1931 Belle has produced 131 hits in 424 at-bats for a .309 average with 25 home runs and gotten on base at a .384 clip. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 70-92, .432 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 50.0 GB | | Record at home | 36-45, .444 PCT | | Record on the road | 34-47, .420 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-11, .389 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 18-23, .439 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 17-18, .486 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 53-74, .417 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 10-12, .455 PCT | | Record in May | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in June | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record in July | 8-18, .308 PCT | | Record in August | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in September | 9-18, .333 PCT | | Record in October | 2-2, .500 PCT |
