It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Sam Rice -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Rose Bowl and paced the Hawks to a 8-3 win over the Limavady Greyhounds.
After his dynamite batting performance the Hampshire right fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book.
S. Rice doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off R. Kisinger in the 8th.
Thus far this year Rice has hit .315 with 1 home run and 44 RBIs. | | Tuesday, August 29th, 1922: Somerset Blanked by Greyhounds Hank Fischer had an impressive outing today. He hurled the Limavady Greyhounds to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Somerset Sabres, yielding 1 hit with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
"He threw strikes and he was always around the plate," the Somerset skipper said. "The ball was doing everything he wanted it to do. We hit some balls hard, but they were all right at the fielders."
In 1922 Fischer has a 11-10 record with a 4.03 ERA in 30 starts. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | SS Charlie Hollocher | ruptured ulnar collateral ligament (elbow) | 4-5 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | RF Elmer Smith | torn anterior cruciate ligament | 3 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 89-73, .549 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 16.0 GB | | Record at home | 49-32, .605 PCT | | Record on the road | 40-41, .494 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-12, .429 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 34-23, .596 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 22-13, .629 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 67-60, .528 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 8-2, .800 PCT | | Record in April | 13-12, .520 PCT | | Record in May | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in June | 16-11, .593 PCT | | Record in July | 16-9, .640 PCT | | Record in August | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in September | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in October | 0-1, .000 PCT |
