| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, August 16th, 1922: Injury Takes Toll, Tovar Out 3 Weeks The Lancashire Lightning were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Cesar Tovar was likely to be out for 3 weeks after he injured himself throwing the ball in today's game against the Limavady Greyhounds. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a hyperextended elbow. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Lancashire manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Cesar is back in action."
Batting .248 to date, Tovar has 2 home runs and 41 RBIs. |  | Saturday, August 12th, 1922: Lightning Blanked by Gladiators Rube Bressler of the Gloucestershire Gladiators just toyed with the Lancashire Lightning today, blanking them 14-0. He was almost untouchable, baffling them on a 6-hit shutout with 9 strikeouts and 4 walks.
"I'm sweating now because it's hot in here," Bressler said in the clubhouse after the game. "But it didn't even feel like I was sweating out there."
One of his teammates said it was easy to play behind him today. "It was like he's just playing with the hitters and doing whatever he wanted to do."
In no relief appearances this season, Bressler has no saves. He has 14 wins and 7 losses, 2.97 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 188 innings. |  | Sunday, July 30th, 1922: Lancashire Says Tovar Hospitalized Lancashire second baseman Cesar Tovar hasn't been feeling well lately and now has been diagnosed with strep throat.
