| Breaking News | | Saturday, May 3rd, 1930: Greenwell 5-5 Against Lancashire "It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Gloucestershire left fielder Mike Greenwell said to SION reporters after his fantastic 5-5 day against the Lancashire Lightning at County Ground - Bristol. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."
The Gladiators had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 11-7.
M. Greenwell singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off N. Baker in the 8th.
This year Greenwell has collected a .265 batting average to date with 22 hits in 83 at-bats, 10 RBIs, 2 home runs and scored 14 times. He has played in 23 games. | | Friday, April 18th, 1930: Lightning Holds Greyhounds Scoreless It was a razor-sharp performance by Red Faber of the Lancashire Lightning against the Limavady Greyhounds. He fashioned a fine 3-hitter in blanking them 1-0 and chalked up 3 strikeouts and 5 walks.
| | Saturday, April 12th, 1930: Escobar Records Shutout Against Lightning "He was too darn good for us today," grumbled the Lancashire manager after his club suffered a 3-0 shutout at the hands of Kelvim Escobar of the Buckie Whalers. He held the Lancashire Lightning scoreless in a 2-hit whitewash.
Escobar was in a zone of his own most of the game and finished with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing.
In a postgame quote his own skipper added, "He pitched his butt off, had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. Kelvim did a whale of a pitching job."
