| Breaking News | | Sunday, October 15th, 1922: Meadows Sharp, Whitewashes Gladiators "That was one of my best outings," said Lee Meadows. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."
It was an impressive start for the Hawks hurler. He blanked the Gladiators 7-0 on a strong 3-hitter while ringing up 5 strikeouts and doling out 4 walks.
This season-to-date Meadows has 19 wins and 7 losses and a 2.97 ERA. | | Wednesday, October 11th, 1922: Starting Pitcher Walter Johnson Hurt Walter Johnson at first refused to leave today's Hampshire-Gloucestershire game after he suffered a tender shoulder while throwing a pitch. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor," the feisty Gloucestershire starting pitcher said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Johnson out of action for 1-2 weeks.
In 1922 Johnson has compiled a 27-8 mark with a 2.60 ERA in 41 starts. In pitching 342.1 innings he has 309 strikeouts and 109 walks while limiting the opposition to a .220 batting average. | | Saturday, October 7th, 1922: Gloucestershire No Match for Nehf Clontarf's Art Nehf breezed through the Gladiators lineup today, collecting a 6-hit shutout and a 4-0 victory along the way. Nehf fanned 4 as well.
"I didn't really feel like I had my game today," Nehf confessed, "but some days are like that -- you just gotta go with what you have."
