Saturday, September 9th, 1922: Devlin Cracks 5 Hits
Durham first baseman Jim Devlin really lit up the Glamorgan Dragons with a 5-hit barrage today at Riverside Stadium -- a performance that sparked the Dynamos to a 10-1 triumph.

He shrugged off the performance after the game and said, "Sometimes the ball finds outfielders, today the ball found some holes."

J. Devlin singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off O. Harstad in the 8th.

Devlin is batting .290 in 1922 with 2 home runs, 53 RBIs and 82 runs scored. He has 174 hits in 601 at-bats.

Sunday, August 20th, 1922: O'Rourke Gets 6 Hits
Who needs batting practice? Jim O'Rourke of Glamorgan apparently doesn't as he battered Gloucestershire with a 6-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 5-4 win.

He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 6 for 6 day... will my name be in the record books now?"

J. O'Rourke singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit a two-run single in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J. Fassero in the 10th.

This season O'Rourke has banged out 93 hits in 300 at-bats for a .310 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .358 pace and his totals also include 38 RBIs and 42 runs scored.

Monday, August 14th, 1922: Vaughan Rips Glamorgan for 5 Hits
It was a big day with the bat for Arky Vaughan of the Hampshire Hawks at Rose Bowl as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Glamorgan 11-0.

To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 5 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."

At the end of the game Vaughan had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Hawks had won.

The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.

A. Vaughan hit an RBI double in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off P. Toth in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
