| Breaking News | | Thursday, May 1st, 1930: CL's #1 Starter is Prior The Celtic Pitcher of the Month honor has been given to Mark Prior of Buckie for a superlative month.
"I actually never wanted to be a pitcher," Prior told reporters when asked who he credits for his pitching ability. "I was an outfielder until high school, and on the third day of tryouts my coach came up and said, 'Son you couldn't hit a lick even if we put it on a tee for ya.' Well, that ticked me off, so I decided if I couldn't hit I wanted to make sure no one else could either and so here I am."
It all turned out for the best as the Buckie starter notched a 4-0 record with a 0.47 ERA last month. He made 5 starts and struck out 57 in 38.1 innings.
| | Saturday, April 12th, 1930: Escobar Records Shutout Against Lightning "He was too darn good for us today," grumbled the Lancashire manager after his club suffered a 3-0 shutout at the hands of Kelvim Escobar of the Buckie Whalers. He held the Lancashire Lightning scoreless in a 2-hit whitewash.
Escobar was in a zone of his own most of the game and finished with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing.
In a postgame quote his own skipper added, "He pitched his butt off, had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. Kelvim did a whale of a pitching job."
| | Saturday, March 22nd, 1930: Whalers Starting Pitcher Injured The Whalers received bad news this morning. TAKEHIKO BESSHO will miss 6-7 weeks due to a strained back muscle. In the Buckie-Hampshire game he sustained the injury while throwing a pitch. "I'm disappointed more than anything," he told reporters later in the day. "You can't help your team on the bench," BESSHO sighed. "I'll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery."
