| Breaking News |  | Thursday, October 15th, 1931: Abreu Out for One Week Watching Bobby Abreu getting helped off the field today at Speyside, fans of the Buckie Whalers feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the right fielder will miss one week with bruised ribs. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Abreu suffered the injury making a defensive play in the game against the Bulls.
In the current season, Abreu has put up a .265 batting average with 153 hits, 29 home runs, 124 RBIs and scored 128 times. |  | Tuesday, October 6th, 1931: Starting Pitcher Tom Glavine Hurt After injuring himself, Whalers starting pitcher Tom Glavine headed straight to the hospital. He was removed from the game as a precaution after throwing a pitch and the team's worst fears were confirmed when it turned out to be a little more serious. Glavine will miss at least 1-2 weeks with dead arm syndrome.
His record in 1931 is 22-4 in 32 starts and Glavine has a 2.78 ERA. |  | Monday, October 5th, 1931: Whalers Klein Takes CL Batting Crown The 1931 Celtic batting champion is Chuck Klein of the Buckie Whalers. He just closed out an impressive season with a .377 average. His consistency at the plate was a prime reason the 27-year-old left fielder beat out the competition. A slump was a rare occurence for him.
