Worcestershire starter Carlos Zambrano really did a number on the Outlaws today, shutting them out 2-0 on 2 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 12 strikeouts.
In his postgame comments, the Nottinghamshire manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Carlos... he did an outstanding job today."
In 1922 Zambrano has compiled a 25-7 mark with a 2.75 ERA in 34 starts. In pitching 239 innings he has 293 strikeouts and 100 walks while limiting the opposition to a .199 batting average.

"He's got a bunch of different arm angles and his ball was really moving," said the Worcestershire manager after watching Tim McNamara of the Nottinghamshire Outlaws humiliate his club 4-0 in a fine 2-hit shutout.
"If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," McNamara said after he befuddled the Royals. "I was making good pitches the entire game."
He whiffed 6 and walked 1 in the complete game effort.
So far this year McNamara has compiled a 17-12 record with a 2.61 ERA.

 | Monday, September 11th, 1922: Worcestershire Reliever Injured
Johnny Miljus at first refused to leave today's Derbyshire-Worcestershire game after he suffered a strained bicep muscle while throwing a pitch. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor," the feisty Worcestershire reliever said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Miljus out of action for 4-5 weeks.
This season Miljus has chalked up no saves, notched a 4-4 record with a 2.30 ERA, allowed 87 hits in his 105.2 innings of work, struck out 56 and walked 28. Opponents are hitting .224 against the Worcestershire hurler.
