Home Nations Baseball Association News Article | |  | Tuesday, September 1st, 1931: Derbyshire Starter Named BL's Premier Pitcher Derbyshire Phantoms starter Dazzy Vance has collected the British Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances.
"This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said Vance. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down."
In August the 35-year-old compiled a 5-3 record in 8 starts with a 2.27 ERA. He threw 63.1 innings, fanning 50 while walking 18.
To date in 1931, Vance sports a 16-13 mark with a 2.91 ERA in 33 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .243 batting average and has 240 strikeouts in 260 innings. | |
